What is a .YCD file?

A .YCD file is a special kind of data file that is made by a computer program called Y-Cruncher. This program is used by people who want to find out more digits of Pi, which is a very long number that starts with 3.14. The .YCD file keeps a part of these Pi digits, either as regular numbers (decimal) or in a format called hexadecimal, which is a way to write numbers using both letters and numbers.

Because the goal is to find as many digits of Pi as possible, sometimes even trying to set a new world record, these .YCD files can get really big. They are often kept together in big groups or sets.

If you have a .YCD file and you want to open it to see the Pi digits inside, you can use the Y-Cruncher program itself. There's also a special tool called Y-Cruncher Digit Viewer that lets you look at the digits in a more readable way. Both of these programs are designed to work with .YCD files, so they can handle the large size and special format of the data inside.
