A .XLB file is a Microsoft Excel Toolbar Settings File, created by Microsoft.

Open with Microsoft Excel 365. Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .XLB file?

An .XLB file is a type of file used by Microsoft Excel, which is a program for creating and managing spreadsheets. The .XLB file contains settings specifically for the toolbars in Excel. Toolbars are the rows of icons and options that you see at the top of the Excel window, which let you perform tasks quickly, such as saving your work, undoing changes, or copying and pasting information.

These toolbar settings files (.XLB) save your personal customizations. For example, if you like having certain tools like "Print" or "Sort" readily available, you can add these to your toolbar, and these changes are saved in the .XLB file. This file also keeps track of which toolbars are shown, where they are positioned on your screen, and what each toolbar contains.

You can open and modify .XLB files using Microsoft Excel. If you are using Microsoft Excel 365, you can customize your toolbar in several ways: 1. Go to "File" then "Options," and select "Quick Access Toolbar" to add or remove commands. 2. Click the small downward arrow on the toolbar and choose "More Commands..." to make changes. 3. Right-click on any command in the ribbon (the top section of Excel with tabs like Home, Insert, etc.) and select "Add to Quick Access Toolbar" to quickly add frequently used commands. 4. In older versions of Excel, you might need to go to the "View" menu and choose "Toolbars" to make adjustments.

When you finish customizing and close Excel, the program automatically saves these changes to the .XLB file. This means you can transfer this file to another computer and have the same toolbar settings there.

The .XLB files are usually stored in a specific folder on your computer, typically found at: - C:\Users\[your username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel or - C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel If you ever delete the .XLB file, don't worry—Excel will create a new one when it opens next. However, you will lose any customizations you had made previously.
