What is a .WNCRYT file?
A .WNCRYT file is a type of temporary file that is created by a harmful computer program called Wana Decrypt0r 2.0. This program is a kind of ransomware, which means it's a virus that locks your files by scrambling them so you can't open or use them anymore. It then asks you to pay money to unlock your files. The .WNCRYT file appears during the process when the virus is locking your files. After it has finished locking your files, it changes these temporary files into another type called .WNCRY files.
The way it works is like this: if your computer gets infected with the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 virus, it starts to lock each of your files, such as your pictures, documents, and videos. While it's doing this, it creates .WNCRYT files as a sort of placeholder or step in the process. Once it's done locking a file, it renames the file with a new extension, .wncry, to show that the file has been encrypted. For example, a document named "report.docx" would be changed to "report.docx.wncry". You won't be able to open or view these files normally because they are encrypted.
Additionally, the virus leaves a note in a .TXT file explaining that your files have been locked and asking for money to unlock them. It's important to know that paying the ransom does not guarantee that you will get your files back.
To deal with these .WNCRYT files, you might use special tools designed to decrypt or unlock your files without paying the ransom. These tools are known as WannaCry Decryption Tools. Another way to possibly restore your files is by using a System Restore point on your computer, if you have one set up from before the infection happened. This might return your system to a state before the files were locked, but it's not guaranteed to work for everyone or restore all files.
Remember, it's very risky to deal with ransomware, and it's recommended to take precautions to prevent infection in the first place, such as using antivirus software and backing up your files regularly.
