What is a .TA6 file?
A .TA6 file is a special type of file used for tax returns in the year 2016. It is made using a program called TaxAct, specifically the version from 2016. This file has all the important tax information for that year, including the tax forms that go to the federal government (IRS) and the tax forms for the state where the person lives. It also has personal information like the person's name, birthday, job, whether they are married, if they have any children or other dependents, and their social security number.
To open a .TA6 file, you need to use the TaxAct program from 2016. You can use TaxAct on your computer or online through their website. If you have made a tax return using TaxAct, you might have saved it as a .TA6 file on your computer, usually in a folder called "TaxAct2016" inside your "My Documents" folder. People usually make these tax return files between January and April 15th of the year after the tax year, so a .TA6 file would be made in early 2017 for the 2016 tax year. After finishing your tax return in TaxAct, you can choose to print out the forms and mail them, or you can file them online directly through the program.
If you're worried about losing your tax return file or it getting damaged, TaxAct lets you make a backup. You do this by choosing "File" then "Backup..." in the program, and it saves a copy as a .BA6 file. But remember, you need to save your original tax return first before making a backup.
Lastly, it's good to know that the .TA6 file is the newer version of the .TA5 file, which was used for tax returns in 2015.
