What is a .STORMREPLAY file?
A .STORMREPLAY file is a type of file used by the video game Heroes of the Storm to store replays of matches. This file contains all the necessary data that the game needs to recreate a match for viewing. Heroes of the Storm is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game where players choose a hero character and work together in teams of five to compete against another team of five players.
When you play a match in Heroes of the Storm, the game automatically saves a replay of the entire match. This replay is stored in a .STORMREPLAY file. You can find these files in a specific folder on your computer, usually located at ~/Blizzard/Heroes of the Storm/Accounts/Account#/ #HeroName#/Replays.
To watch a replay, you don't need any special video player. Instead, you use the game itself. Inside the Heroes of the Storm game, there is a "Watch" button on the home screen. By clicking this button, you can access and view any of your saved replay files.
It's important to note that .STORMREPLAY files are not standard video files. They do not contain actual video footage but instead hold data about everything that happened during the game. This allows the game to accurately reconstruct and replay the match exactly as it occurred, letting players analyze the game play-by-play.
The only program that can open and play a .STORMREPLAY file is Blizzard Heroes of the Storm. Other media players or software cannot open this type of file because they are specifically formatted for use within the Heroes of the Storm game environment.
