What is a .PVOC file?
A .PVOC file is a type of database file specifically used by the iVocabulary application, which runs on macOS computers. This application is designed to help users manage and learn new vocabulary words effectively. The .PVOC file contains collections of vocabulary terms along with their definitions. Additionally, it includes important metadata like the author's name and the languages for which the vocabulary terms are intended (source and target languages).
Originally, .PVOC files were created by a program called ProVoc, developed by Arizona Software. However, ProVoc is no longer available as it was discontinued, and now iVocabulary is the primary software that supports and creates .PVOC files. Although iVocabulary typically uses the .IVOC file format for saving vocabulary databases, it still allows users to export these databases in the ProVoc format (.PVOC). This can be done by going to the "File" menu in iVocabulary, choosing "Export," and then selecting "Export for ProVoc." The main uses of iVocabulary, and by extension .PVOC files, include helping students prepare for exams by learning new vocabulary or assisting professionals who need to acquire specialized terms for their work. Users of iVocabulary often save their vocabulary databases as .PVOC files for purposes such as backing up their data or sharing vocabulary lists with other users of the app.
To open a .PVOC file, you will need to use the iVocabulary application by Christian Beer, which is specifically designed for macOS. This is currently the only program known to support and open this type of file.
