What is a .PJPG file?
A .PJPG file is a type of image file known as a Progressive JPEG Image. This format is special because it saves images in layers or "scans." When you open a PJPG file on a website, it doesn't load all at once. Instead, it shows you a low-quality version of the image first, and then it gradually improves in quality as more data loads. This was very useful back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, especially for people using slower internet connections, because it allowed them to see a rough version of the image quickly without having to wait for the whole file to download.
Originally, this format was popular with Microsoft Internet Explorer, a web browser. However, nowadays, PJPG files are not very common. Most images that use this progressive loading technique are now simply saved with a .jpg or .jpeg extension, which are standard for JPEG images.
