What is a .PBI file?
The .PBI file extension is used for a type of file known as a PC BSD Installer Package. This kind of file is specifically designed for use with the PC-BSD operating system, which is a version of BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) tailored for personal computers. A .PBI file includes everything needed to install a program or an application on the PC-BSD operating system. Inside this file, you'll find a setup file along with all the necessary libraries that are required to complete the installation of a program. When you open a .PBI file on a computer running PC-BSD, it automatically launches an installation wizard, which guides you through the process of installing the software contained within the .PBI file. This is somewhat similar to how SETUP.EXE files work on Windows computers, where opening the file starts the program installation process.
However, it's important to note that the PC-BSD operating system, and by extension the programs that can open .PBI files, has been discontinued. This means that new versions of the software are no longer being developed, and support for it might be limited.
