Instead, it remembers where these drawings are supposed to go on the map and what they look like. Think of it like a list of instructions for how to recreate your map annotations, but not the actual drawings or pictures themselves.
To open a .OVR file, you need to use The Overlay Maker program. This is the same program you would use to create the overlay in the first place. So, if you have a .OVR file that someone else made, you can open it in The Overlay Maker to see the annotations they added to the map.
Additionally, there's something called an .OVP package. This is related to .OVR files but includes more information. An .OVP package not only has the overlay information (like the .OVR file) but also contains the actual files for the drawings and pictures used in the overlay. This means if you get an .OVP package, you're getting everything you need to see the map with its annotations exactly as they were originally created.
