.NICK File Extension

A .NICK file is a Outlook 2000 Nickname File, created by Microsoft.

Open with Microsoft Outlook 2000 or earlier. Available for Windows.

What is a .NICK file?

The .NICK file extension is used for a special type of file called an Outlook 2000 Nickname File. This file is related to the Microsoft Outlook 2000 email program, or versions that came before it. What it does is pretty simple but very useful. Imagine you have a friend or a colleague with a long or hard-to-remember email address. Instead of typing that long email every time you want to send them a message, you can create a nickname for it. This nickname is stored in a .NICK file. So, next time you want to email them, you just type the nickname, and Outlook knows exactly who you mean because it looks up the nickname in the .NICK file and finds the full email address for you.

To open or use these .NICK files, you need to have Microsoft Outlook 2000 or an earlier version of the program. These versions of Outlook use the .NICK file to store these nicknames. However, it's important to note that if you're using Outlook 2002 or any newer version, it doesn't use .NICK files anymore. Instead, it uses files with the extension .NK2 for the same purpose. So, if you're using a more recent version of Outlook and you have a .NICK file, you won't be able to use it directly. You might need to find a way to convert it to the newer format or stick to using Outlook 2000 or an earlier version if you need to access the nicknames stored in a .NICK file.
