What is a .KRA~ file?
A .KRA~ file is a special kind of file that acts as a safety net for your work in Krita, which is a program used for drawing and painting digitally. Think of it as a backup copy of your artwork or project. When you create or edit an image in Krita and save it as a .KRA file, Krita also makes a .KRA~ file. This backup file contains all the work you did up to the last save point, just in case something goes wrong, like if the program crashes or you accidentally delete your work. It's like having a spare key to your house.
This .KRA~ file is stored in the same place on your computer as your original Krita project file (.KRA). So, if you look in the folder where you saved your work, you'll see both the .KRA file and the .KRA~ file. The "~" symbol at the end of the file extension is what tells you this is a backup file.
If you ever need to use this backup file, for example, if your main .KRA file gets lost or corrupted, you can open it directly in Krita. Just go to Krita, find the option to open a file, and select your .KRA~ file. Krita will understand it's a backup and will open it so you can continue working on your project.
Besides Krita, there's another program called qView that can open these .KRA~ files. qView is a simple and fast image viewer, which means it lets you see the images but doesn't have all the editing features that Krita does. So, if you just want to look at the backup of your work without editing it, you can use qView to do so.
In summary, a .KRA~ file is a backup of your digital art project made in Krita, stored alongside your main project file, and can be opened with Krita for editing or qView for viewing.
