What is a .KIFR file?
A file that ends in .kifr is a file that has been locked by a harmful computer program called KIFR ransomware. This means that the file, which could be anything like a word document, a picture, a video, or any other type of file, has been changed by this ransomware. The ransomware adds ".kifr" to the end of the file's original name. So, if you had a file named "familyphoto.jpg," after the ransomware attacks, it would be renamed to "familyphoto.jpg.kifr." To try and fix files that have been changed to .kifr, you might think about using a feature on your computer called System Restore. However, it's important to know that System Restore might not always be able to get your files back to normal because of how the ransomware works.
The KIFR ransomware first showed up in April 2023. It's a type of harmful software called .STOP ransomware, which bad people use to break into computers and lock files by changing them. Once it has locked your files, KIFR ransomware leaves a note in every folder that has a locked file. This note is usually a text file named _readme.txt, and it tells you that you can get your files back if you pay money. But, paying the ransom is risky because the people behind the ransomware might not unlock your files even after you pay.
You might wonder how this ransomware got onto your computer. Often, KIFR ransomware sneaks in through other programs that look safe but are actually harmful. For example, if you downloaded a program from a website that wasn't trustworthy and installed it, that program could have brought the ransomware into your computer.
