.IMX File Extension

A .IMX file is a iMindMap Map File, created by ThinkBuzan.

Open with ThinkBuzan iMindMap (Discontinued). Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .IMX file?

The .IMX file extension is associated with a type of file known as an iMindMap Map File. This file format is specifically used by a program called iMindMap, which is a tool designed to help users organize their thoughts and ideas through mind mapping. A mind map in iMindMap can include a central idea, from which various branches can extend. These branches can contain additional text, flowcharts, and sketches to further elaborate on the ideas.

Originally, iMindMap was developed by ThinkBuzan, but the software has been discontinued and replaced by a new application called Ayoa. Unfortunately, Ayoa does not support .IMX files. Therefore, if you have .IMX files, you can only open them with older versions of iMindMap—specifically, iMindMap 5 and later versions. Earlier versions of iMindMap used a different file format, .IMM, which is not compatible with the newer .IMX format.

To create a new .IMX file in iMindMap, you would typically start by opening the application and selecting "File" then "New" or by clicking on the "New Mind Map" button. Next, you would choose a theme for your Central Idea. Once your mind map is set up, you can save it by going to "File" then "Save" or "Save As...", or by clicking the floppy disk icon. In the save dialog box, you would name your file, choose where to save it, and then click "Save." Although the primary software for opening .IMX files (ThinkBuzan iMindMap) has been discontinued, users who still have this software installed on their devices can continue to use it to open and edit .IMX files. However, it's important to note that no new updates or support will be available for this software. For users on iOS devices, there was a version of iMindMap available, but like the desktop version, it has also been discontinued.
