What is a .H3E file?
The .H3E file is a special type of file used by guitarists who want to customize the sound of their guitar using a computer program. This file is created with a program called Line 6 POD HD300 Edit, which is a tool for editing guitar effects. When you change settings in the program to get the sound you like, you can save these settings as a .H3E file. This file contains all the adjustments you've made, such as the type of effects you're using (like "FX," "REVERB," or "GATE"), and how each effect is tweaked (like the speed, bass, drive, treble, and how loud each effect is).
To make a .H3E file, you first adjust your guitar's sound settings in the Line 6 POD HD300 Edit program. Once you're happy with how it sounds, you go to the "File" menu, choose "Save As...," give your file a name, pick where you want to save it on your computer, and then click "Save." If you want to open and use a .H3E file you've made or received from someone else, you just need to double-click the file or open it through the program's "File" menu.
For Mac users, when you save a .H3E file, it usually goes into a folder called /Documents/Line 6/Tones/POD HD300 Edit. If you're using Windows, it goes into My Documents/Line 6/Tones/POD HD300 Edit.
It's important to know that when the newer Line 6 POD HD400 Edit program came out, it started using a different file extension called .H4E. However, you can still open .H3E files with both the HD300 and HD400 Edit programs. Also, if you want to save a bunch of settings at once, instead of a .H3E file, you would create an .H3B file, which can hold up to 128 different presets.
