What is a .GP5 file?
A .GP5 file is a special kind of music file that is used with the Guitar Pro 5 program, but it can also be opened by Guitar Pro 6. This type of file is like a music sheet for instruments such as the guitar, bass, or banjo, but it's in a digital format that Guitar Pro can read. Unlike regular music files that you listen to, a GP5 file doesn't contain any actual sounds. Instead, it has information about which musical notes are played by which instruments. When you open a GP5 file in Guitar Pro, the program uses this information to simulate how the music would sound.
You can open GP5 files with a few different programs, but the most common ones are TuxGuitar and Arobas Music Guitar Pro. TuxGuitar is a free program that can work with these files, while Arobas Music Guitar Pro is a more advanced program that you might have to pay for.
Guitar Pro, the program that creates GP5 files, was originally made for Windows computers by a company called Arobas Music. Later on, they made a version for Mac computers too. When you save a tab in Guitar Pro, it uses a file extension that matches the version of the program. So, Guitar Pro 5 saves files as .GP5, Guitar Pro 4 as .GP4, and so on. Even when new versions of Guitar Pro come out, the program can still open and work with files from older versions.
