What is a .EGLIB file?

The .EGLIB file extension refers to an Adobe Edge Animate Library File. This type of file is used in Adobe Edge Animate, which was a software program designed for creating animated content for websites. The .EGLIB file contains a collection of symbols along with their properties, which can be reused across different animation projects. These symbols typically include vector or bitmap graphics that have been converted into a format usable within the software.

Although Adobe Edge Animate CC, the program that originally used this file type, has been discontinued, the .EGLIB files were important because they allowed users to share and import reusable components easily between projects. This file type is similar to the .ANSYM file, which is now more commonly used in place of .EGLIB files in newer software versions.

To use an .EGLIB file in Adobe Edge Animate (before it was discontinued), you would go to the Library section of the program, click on the "+" symbol next to "Symbols," and then select "Import Symbols..." from the options. After navigating to the .EGLIB file you wish to use and opening it, the symbols contained in the file would appear in your project's "Symbols" section. From there, you could drag the symbols onto the "Stage" area where you are building your animation.

It's important to note that since Adobe Edge Animate is no longer actively developed (as of November 2015), and Adobe Creative Cloud no longer uses .EGLIB files for exporting symbols, the use of these files is limited to older versions of the software or specific legacy projects that still rely on this format. The icons for .EGLIB files look the same as those for .ANSYM files, which might cause some confusion when identifying the file type.
