What is a .B00 file?

A .B00 file is a type of data file that was made by a program called BlindWrite, which is used for copying CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs onto a computer. This file holds a piece of the information that was taken from a CD. When a CD's data is too big to fit into one file, or when someone wants to make the backup files smaller and easier to handle, BlindWrite splits the CD's data into several parts. The .B00 file is one part of this split data. Usually, this data could be anything from computer programs to music.

To open a .B00 file, you would need to use the BlindWrite software by VSO Software. However, it's important to note that the newer versions of BlindWrite don't make .B00 files anymore. This means if you come across a .B00 file, it was likely created with an older version of the software. Alongside a .B00 file, you might also find files with extensions like .B01, .B02, and so on, in the same folder. These files are all parts of the same CD's data, split into segments to make the data easier to store and manage. Each file represents a different segment of the CD, with the numbers in the file extensions increasing with each subsequent part.

The reason older versions of BlindWrite split the data into these segments was to help users manage their storage space better. Back when storage space was more limited, splitting a large CD's data into smaller files made it easier to back up and store on a computer. However, as computers now come with much larger storage capacities, the need for splitting files into smaller segments like this has decreased. Consequently, the use of .B00 files and other segmented files has also declined, leading to their eventual discontinuation in newer versions of the BlindWrite software.
