What is a .ABT file?

An .ABT file is a special kind of document called an Annotated Braille Text File. It's made by a program called Braille 2000, which was created by a company named Computer Application Specialties Company (CASC). This program is a tool used to edit braille text, which is a system of raised dots that people who are blind or have low vision can read by touch.

The .ABT file contains braille, but it's written in a format called XML. This makes it possible for machines called braille embossers to read the file and print it out in raised dots on paper, so it can be read by touch.

Unfortunately, the program Braille 2000 that opens these .ABT files isn't available anymore because it has been discontinued. However, when it was available, it was similar to other file types like .BRF, which are also used to make digital documents accessible to people who are blind.

If someone had Braille 2000 and wanted to make a new .ABT file, they would start by opening the program, choosing to create a new braille file, naming their file, and then selecting "Annotated Braille Text File (abt)" as the type of file they want to create. After that, they would just save it.

To open an .ABT file in Braille 2000, a user would go through the process of opening the program, looking for the option to open a braille file, finding their .ABT file, and then opening it to work on or read.

It's also worth noting that before Braille 2000, there was another program called ED-IT PC that used the .ABT file extension. However, the .ABT files from ED-IT PC were in a different format that only worked with that specific program.
